Mar 101 in 3 Sneak Preview
Something VERY exciting happened last week. The film I was producer/production coordinator on, 1 in 3, had its first sneak preview screening at the University of Oklahoma Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.

The Fred Jones auditorium seats about 150 and we filled it up! To the max, and had to turn away 20 people! I can’t believe it…how wonderful. The event was put on by the OU Women’s and Gender Studies program (thanks to my friend Karin Jonsson), the OU Center for Social Justice (also, Karin!) and the Xenia Institute.

Things didn’t go exactly as planned at the screening, but that was ok. We made it work and people really responded positively to the film.
What was even more exciting, for me, anyways…was being a part of awarding Lagueria with the Vagina Monologue Vagina Warrior award. I was contacted weeks prior with the news and helped get Lagueria there without any knowledge of the award. Her bio was plastered in the program for the night and I thought the surprise was over, but to my surprise, NO! Lagueria and her mom (in town for the sneak peek at Fred Jones) magically did NOT pick up a program. So it remained a surprise until she walked up on stage. I was SO very happy and honored to be the one to hand over the award. She deserves it for all of the work she has put in for women’s rights and issues. As filmmakers, as women, we all could only hope to rise to the occasion.
Today was the final deadline for the OKC deadCENTER Film Festival, and I’ll let you know if it makes the cut!
